Holy Family Catholic Church – El Paso, Texas – 1918

According to Centennial History: The Diocese of El Paso, written by Janine Young, CEO of the Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso, Holy Family Catholic Church “was founded in response to the influx of refugees into the Sunset Heights neighborhood during the Mexican Revolution.”

Holy Family Catholic Church is especially important because Father Carlos M. Pinto S.J. built it specifically for Mexican refugees fleeing the violence and religious persecution of the Mexican Revolution.

*Did you know the parishioners of Holy Family, mostly refugees from Mexico, petitioned the Very Reverend John J. Brown, S. J. to not re-assign Fr. Pinto? He left on April 27, 1917 for Albuquerque, New Mexico.

*Did Father Pinto ever return to El Paso?
